How to Find Jobs Abroad Safely from Pakistan

Working abroad can change a family's future, but it is also where many job seekers lose their savings to fake agents. Going through legal channels takes a little longer, and it is far safer.

Use Licensed Overseas Employment Promoters

In Pakistan, recruitment for jobs abroad is regulated by the Bureau of Emigration & Overseas Employment. Licensed overseas employment promoters are registered with the Bureau. Before you pay any fee, check the promoter's licence on the Bureau's official website.

Know the Warning Signs

  • A job offer with no interview or skills test.
  • Pressure to pay large amounts in cash quickly.
  • No written contract, or a contract you are not allowed to read.
  • Promises of a "free visa" or very high pay for unskilled work.
  • An agent who cannot show a valid licence.

Read Your Contract Carefully

Your employment contract should state the job title, salary, working hours, accommodation and the length of the contract. Ask someone you trust to read it with you before you sign.

Complete the Official Process

Workers going abroad for employment are registered with the Protector of Emigrants before departure. Follow the steps the Bureau of Emigration sets out, and keep copies of your contract, visa and receipts.

Prepare Your Skills and Documents

Employers abroad value trade certificates, driving licences and some English. Keep your passport valid, your educational and experience documents attested where required, and your CV up to date.

If a deal sounds too good to be true, take a day, check the agent and ask questions. A genuine employer will still be there tomorrow.
